Israel , participated in the Paralympic Games premier in 1960 held in Rome, Italy. The 1960 Paralympics, now considered the first Paralympic Games, was originally known as the ninth Stoke Mandeville Games, an event for disabled athletes established in Great Britain in 1948.
Israel sent two athletes to compete in individual and team competitions to compete in wheelchair basketball. The names of wheelchair basketball team members are not known because they are not recorded in the original hardcopy printed publications.
The team won four medals, two silver and two bronze, and finished sixteenth on the medal table.

Swimming
Both Israeli individual competitors participated in the swimming event. The official result named them as Globus, who competed in the class 50 meters backs of 4th-graders complete, and Engel, who competed in the 25-meter-long princess class complete 1. Globus won the bronze medal, finishing five seconds behind two other swimmers in his event. Engel was one of two competitors in his race and won a silver medal behind Arriens-Kappens of the Netherlands; no bronze medal given.

Table tennis
In addition to competing in the pool Engel also participated in the Singles A women's table tennis event. He won a silver medal with Anderson winning gold and Tora Lysoe, from Norway, bronze.
Basketball chairs
The Israeli team won a bronze medal in the men's A-class wheelchair basketball. England won silver and gold went to the United States team.
