Pizza Hut is an American chain of restaurants and international franchises founded in 1958 by Dan and Frank Carney. The company is known for its Italian-American cuisine including pizza and pasta, as well as side dishes and desserts. Pizza Hut has 16,796 restaurants worldwide in March 2018, making it the largest pizza chain in the world in terms of location. This is a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, Inc., one of the largest restaurant companies in the world.

History
Pizza Hut was founded in June 1958 by two Wichita State University students, the Dan brothers and Frank Carney, as the sole location in Wichita, Kansas. PepsiCo acquired Pizza Hut in November 1977.
Before closing in 2015, the longest operating Pizza Hut operates in Manhattan, Kansas, in the shopping district and taverns known as Aggieville near Kansas State University. The first Pizza Hut restaurant east of the Mississippi River opened in Athens, Ohio in 1966 by Lawrence Berberick and Gary Meyers.
The international presence of Pizza Hut includes Canada and Mexico in North America, India (not in the Pizza Hut division, but in Yum! India division), Bangladesh, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, England, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany, Spain, Turkey , Brazil, Peru, Ecuador and Nicaragua, and its presence in Asia including Japan, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar , Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, China (now part of Yum! Spinoff Yum China), Hong Kong, South Korea, Myanmar, and Macau. Pizza Hut is one of the first American franchises to be opened in Iraq.
The company announced a name change that began on November 19, 2014. The brand change is an attempt to boost sales, which fell in the previous two years. The menu is expanded to introduce a wide range of items such as crust flavor and eleven new specialty pizzas. Work uniforms for employees are also refreshed. In 2017, Pizza Hut is listed by a UK-based company, Richtopia at number 24 on the list of 200 Most Influential Brands in the World.

Pizza Hut is divided into several different restaurant formats: authentic family-style dinner location; location of delivery and taken out of shop; and hybrid locations that have default options, delivery, and dining. Several full-size Pizza Hut locations have a lunch buffet, with "all-you-can-eat" pizza, salads, bread sticks and pasta bars. Curbed.com reported, "Despite Pizza Hut's decision to stop form when they transitioned to delivery, there were still 6,304 traditional units established in 2004, each with a shingle roof and a trapezoidal window marking the same piece suburban comfort and anomie strip-mall. "This building style was common in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The name "Red Roof" is a bit outdated, as many locations have brown roofs. Dozens of "Red Roofs" have been closed or relocated or rebuilt.
Many of the "Red Roof" branches have beer if not a full bar, music from a jukebox, and sometimes an arcade. In the mid-1980s, the company moved into other successful formats including delivery or carryout and fast food "Express" models.
China
In Chinese, Pizza Hut (Simplified Chinese: Traditional Chinese: ??? ; pinyin: ??? ; BÃÆ'¬shÃÆ'¨ng KÃÆ'¨ ) using a modified business model, offering a meal atmosphere with a knife and fork and using the catering menu expanded to Chinese tastes. In 2008, the Pizza Hut restaurant operated and the delivery location. That year, the company introduced "Pizza Hut Express", opening locations in Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou. There are 160 restaurants in 40 Chinese cities in 2005. By 2015, Pizza Hut has 1,903 restaurants in China.
Savio S. Chan (???, Pinyin: ChÃÆ' Â © n ShÃÆ' ohÃÆ'³ng ) and Michael Zakkour, author of Super China Consumer: What 1 Billion Subscribers Have and How to Sell It to Them , suggests that middle-class Pizza Hut considers "similar to fine dining" even though Pizza Hut is "China's largest and most successful foreign casual dining chain".

Pizza Hut developed a pizza for use as a space food, which was delivered to the International Space Station in 2001. It was sealed with a vacuum and about 6 inches (15 cm) in diameter that fits in the station oven. Launched on Soyuz and eaten by Yuri Usachov in orbit.

The first television commercial of Pizza Hut was produced in 1965 by Bob Walterscheidt for Harry Crow's agent in Wichita and entitled "Putt Putt to the Pizza Hut". Pizza Hut is also involved in the placement of products within the film, having a futuristic version of their logo with their trademark red hut printed on the side of mylar dehydrated pizza wrapper in McFly's family dinner scene, and appearing in a display window at Hill Valley in 2015.
NES 1990 Game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Arcade Game , comes with a coupon for free pizza. The game is filled with Pizza Hut ads (first video game console with product placement) and pizza that will recharge the character's life.
In 1994, Donald Trump and his wife, Ivana Trump, appeared in the ad. The final scene of the ad shows Ivana Trump asking for the last piece, in which Donald replied, "Actually dear, you're only entitled to half", a drama about a couple's recent divorce.

United Kingdom
The talk show host Jonathan Ross starred in an ad with the American model Caprice Bourret. They advertise pizza stuffed with crust, with Jonathan Ross telling "crystal clear" because of his rhotacism.
Another ad in England showed British Formula One racer Damon Hill visiting Pizza Hut restaurant and ordering pizza, with F1 commentator Murray Walker visiting with him, and recounting it as if it was a Formula One race. When Hill will finish his meal, Walker, in a drama in the 1994 and 1995 seasons where Hill is second in the Formula One World Championship won by Michael Schumacher, screams "Dan Hill finished second, again!" Hill grabbed Walker with his shirt and shook it angrily, with Walker stating, "She's out of control! She's out of control!"
After England's defeat to Germany on penalties in the semi-finals of Euro 96, Gareth Southgate, Stuart Pearce, and Chris Waddle featured in an ad. The ad showed Southgate wearing a paper bag over his head in shame because he was the one who missed an important penalty against Germany. Waddle and Pearce, who both missed a penalty in Italy 90, taunted the word 'miss' at every opportunity. After Southgate finished his pizza, he removed his paper bag, headed for the door, and banged his head against the wall. Pearce responded with, "this time he hit the pole".
Russian
In 1997, former Soviet Prime Minister Mikhail Gorbachev starred in a Pizza Hut advertisement to raise money for the Perestroyka Archive. In recent years, Pizza Hut has had various celebrity spokespeople, including Jessica Simpson, the Muppets, and Damon Hill and Murray Walker.
Pizza Hut paid for their logo to appear on the Russian Proton rocket in 2000, which launched the Russian Zvezda module.
Pasta Pasta
On April 1, 2008, Pizza Hut in America sent an email to customers advertising their pasta items. Email (and similar ads on the company's website) states: "The pasta is very tasty, we changed our name to Pasta Hut!" The name change was a publicity stunt held on April Fool's Day, extended to April, with Dallas corporate headquarters changing its exterior logo to Pasta Hut. The name change is also used to promote the new Pasta Tuscani line and the new Pizza Hut menu. The first Pasta Hut advertisement shows the original Pizza Hut restaurant being blown up and remade with the "Pasta Hut" sign.

Pizza Hut has sponsored this Book! read incentive programs since its inception in 1985. Students reading books according to the goals set by the classroom teacher, any month from October to March, are rewarded with a Pizza Hut certificate for one Pan Personal Pan Pizza free; and classrooms whose students read most of the books are rewarded with pizza parties.
This program has been criticized by some psychologists for the reason it can lead to overjustification and reduce the intrinsic interest of children in reading. Order This! also criticized by the Campaign for Commercial Free Children (CCFC) in 2007 that describes it as "one of the most dangerous school-based brand promotions in America." A pamphlet produced by the group stated that the program promotes junk food to the prison market, making teachers promoters for Pizza Hut and destroying parents by making visits to chains as an integral part of raising their children to literacy. However, the study of the program found participation in the program did not increase or decrease the reading motivation. The 25th anniversary of this program is in 2010. This book! program in Australia stopped in 2002.
Criticism
In the UK, Pizza Hut was criticized in October 2007 for its high salt content, some of which were found to contain more than twice the amount of salt recommended daily for adults. The meat that consumers demand for pizza toppings (ham, sausage, bacon, etc.) is, also, salty and fatty meat.
To meet the 2010 Food Standards Agency target for salt levels in food, between 2008 and 2010 the company removed more than 15% of salt throughout the menu.
In 2010, Pizza Hut was criticized when its palm oil supplier, Sinar Mas, was illegally exposed to cut and burn Indonesia's Heavenly Forest to plant oil palm plantations.
In July 2014, delivery shippers filed a class action lawsuit against Pizza Hut "paying wage shipping drivers under minimum wage for unpaid car spending" in violation of the 1938 Labor Standards Fair Act. Pizza Hut's attempt to cancel the case in November 2015 failed. In December 2016, the case was nicknamed Linkovich v. Capital Pizza Huts, Inc., et al. , AAA Case No. 01-14-0001-6513 was decided by arbitration, in which Pizza Hut paid compensation..
