Earthquake

The earthquake occurred at 7:58 am Standard Time Japan on June 18, with the epicenter of the Takatsuki area in northeastern Osaka, at a depth of 13.2 kilometers (8.2 miles). The Kansai region is above several active faults, which can produce shallow earthquakes in the interior. The Hanshin Great Earthquake of 1995 occurred near Kobe with high intensity, causing thousands of deaths. It feels strong in northern Osaka and also affects parts of Kyoto nearby.

The earthquake triggered a national seismic alert system, which set an alarm of about 3.2 seconds for the Osaka and Kyoto areas after seismic wave detection. No tsunami waves are generated as a result of earthquakes. The Japan Meteorological Agency assigned an initial amount of <5. MMA 5. MMA , then upgraded to M JMA 6.1. The quake was recorded as 6 ("lower 6") on the shindo intensity scale, and the US Geological Survey reported a magnitude of 5.5 M w . This is the first time lower 6 was registered in Osaka Prefecture since 1923 when the government started storing seismic records.

Damage and effects

The quake caused the collapse of some buildings, as well as damage to underground water pipes that make people not watery. A total of 515 homes were found by government surveys to experience partial damage, especially in Osaka Prefecture but also including some in Kyoto Prefecture, Nara Prefecture, and Hyu Prefecture. The tile and stone ornaments in the houses and historic temples and sanctuaries fell to the ground. At least 170,000 homes in Osaka were initially under power cuts, but electricity was restored later in the morning. The earthquake disrupted the train service, including the Shinkansen, during the morning rush hour but had resumed service six hours later, for an afternoon trip. During closing, passengers get off the train and walk along the tracks, as fears of aftershocks cause further damage. Operation at JXTG Nippon Oil & amp; Energy oil refineries in Osaka and various factories in the Kansai region were suspended for damage checks. Flights at two airports in the Kansai region were temporarily suspended, but resumed a few hours later.
