The bus in Swindon has been the main method of public transportation in the region since the early 20th century.
Introduced in 1927 and replaced the tram system in 1929, this area is now serviced by many operators.

Histori
Swindon Corporation is a local council formed by the 1901 Borough Charter, and Swindon Corporation Tramways began operating an electric tram in 1904.
The operation of the buses began in 1927 and two years later all the trams were replaced by this form of transportation. In 1942 Swindon became one of the first authorities to take "Arab" deliveries made by Guy Motors. One of them, No. 51 (DHR 192), now preserved at RAF Wroughton near Swindon which is an Appendix of the National Museum of Science and Industry and is open to the public on certain days of the year.
On the reorganization of local government in the early 1970s its name was changed to Thamesdown Transport where it operates to this day.
The rural and inter-city bus service around Swindon is mainly operated by Bristol Tramways (later known as the Bristol Omnibus Company), which established a branch in Swindon in 1921. Bristol became part of the National Bus Company, and in 1983 the Swindon branch was transferred to the company new, Cheltenham & amp; Gloucester Omnibus Company, which operates in Swindon under the name Swindon and District. Cheltenham & amp; Gloucester was sold to his management in 1986, and was absorbed into the Stagecoach Group as Stagecoach in Swindon in 1993.

Bus station and Fleming Way
Original bus station
Prior to 1966 Swindon did not have a bus terminal, and buses departed from road stops in and around the Regent Circus. The first bus station opened in 1966 on the site of the tram station on Jalan Company. After the expansion it finally took most of the land between Manchester Road and Fleming Way. The site was rebuilt in the 1980s on the construction of the current facility, with the bus station replaced by the office accommodation now used by Zurich Financial Services.
Existing bus terminal
The bus station is currently built in the 1980s, adjacent to the former garage site of Thamesdown Transportation. It primarily acts as a terminus for buses that serve destinations outside the urban areas of Swindon or services that are not frequent. It is also used as a train station, with services from National Express, Megabus, and international services departing from here. In recent years, following the increasing immigration from Eastern European countries, regular services to Poland have been introduced.
Redevelopment
In 2004, the Swindon Borough Council announced the proposed redevelopment of downtown areas including the bus station. Thamesdown Transport moved from their Company Road home to a new facility in Barnfield in 2005, with land allocated for conversion to commercial properties. As well as the downtown office, the project also makes provisions for housing, shops, cafes and restaurants. The plan will lead to the demolition of all buildings in this area, including the current bus station, with a replacement to be built along the Fleming Way. In 2015, the multilevel parking lot adjacent to the bus station was destroyed as part of this scheme.
