The London Theater School ( LSMT ) is a performing arts academy that has been training since 1995.
Originally housed at The Old Vic Theater and then Her Majesty's Theater, before moving to a spot on Borough Road where it currently operates. In 2015 the school is based at Price Studios in Clapham but then returns to Borough Road after a full building renovation in the summer of 2016.
The London School of Musical Theater provides a one-year full-time vocational training course for those wishing to enter careers at the Musical Theater. The ethos of the LSMT is to create a professional corporate environment in training rather than an educational institution. The emphasis of the course is on developing a singing voice as a tool for acting through songs together with thorough training in dance and drama. Classes are taught by professionals and practitioners working in the industry, with hands-on experience from the requirements of musical theater to minutes.
Visiting practitioners include Philip Quast, Cynthia Erivo, Aaron Tveit, Matt Ryan, Ken Caswell, Helen Hobson, Sarah Travis, and Hannah Waddingham.
Since its founding in 1995 the LSMT has commissioned and produced new musical theater works with many works now published and presented around the world. The school employs Charles Miller as his resident composer.
Many graduates continue to have careers in West End, theater and television shows. Graduates are on or have appeared on shows like Les MisÃÆ'  © rables , Mamma Mia! , The Phantom of the Opera , Evil , Curly Shoes , Billy Elliott , Grease , Charlie and Chocolate Factory, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat , Memphis , Made in Dagenham and more. Alumna Emma Hatton recently played Elphaba on Wicked and currently plays Evita on National Tour, alternate Adam Bayjou Jean Valjean at Les Misà © à © rables and Danny Walters playing Tiger in the ITV series Benidorm .
