Jovenel MoÃÆ'ïse (born June 26, 1968) is a Haitian politician who served as President of Haiti 42nd and currently since February 2017. Previously, the final official result has shown him as the winner of the November 2016 election.

Early life and education
Jovenel MoÃÆ'à ¯se was born in a middle-class family in Trou-du-Nord, Nord-Est. He is the son of Etienne MoÃÆ'à ¯se, a merchant, and Lucia Bruno, a tailor.
In July 1974, his family moved to Port-au-Prince, where he studied at Don Durà ©, Lycà © Ã
© e Toussaint Louverture School, and the Culture Center at CollÃÆ'ège Canado-HaÃÆ'ïtien. He studied political science at Università © Quisqueya and married Martine Marie Etienne Joseph, a classmate, in 1996. That year, he left the capital and moved to Port-de-Paix in order to develop a rural area.

Business career
With a little investment capital, MoÃÆ'ïse created its first business in Port-de-Paix: JOMAR Auto Parts, still operating today.
Shortly after, he started a project to provide clean water to rural areas. In 2001, he partnered with Culligan, a company based in Port-au-Prince. With loans from financial institutions and individuals, he opened a water mill serving the Nord-Ouest and Nord-Est departments.
In 2004, MoÃÆ'ïse became a member of the Northwest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCINO). Soon after, he was elected president of CCINO. He later became secretary general of the Haitian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIH), where he helped improve the representation of the regional Chamber of Commerce within national organizations.
In 2008, he helped found Haiti Energy Company SA, which aims to bring solar and wind power to 10 communes in Nord-Ouest.
In 2012, in Trou-du-Nord, he founded Agritrans SA and helped create the first agricultural free trade zone in Haiti, a banana plantation spread over nearly 1,000 hectares of land in Nord-Est. This caused more than a dozen agricultural projects that created nearly 3,000 direct jobs and 10,000 indirect jobs.
Political career
In 2015, President Michel Martelly appointed MoÃÆ'ïse as the presidential candidate of the political party founded Martelly, Haitian Party TÃÆ'èt Kale (PHTK).
In his campaign, MoÃÆ'ïse promotes bio-ecological agriculture as an economic engine for Haiti, whose population is over 50% rural. He also expressed support for the policies pursued by Martelly: universal education and health care, energy reform, the rule of law, the creation of sustainable employment, environmental protection, and the development of Haiti as a destination for ecotourism and agritourism.
MoÃÆ'ïse received 32.8% of the vote in the first round of the 2015 election held on October 15, 2015, qualifying for the second round with second-place spotter, Jude Cà © à © lestin. However, a poll conducted by Haiti Sentinel showed MoÃÆ'ïse received only 6% of the votes, and many observers called the results fake. Thousands of people took to the streets by force, forcing the postponement of a second round of elections.
On November 27, 2016, election officials said MoÃÆ'ïse had won the 2016 election in the first round based on preliminary results, with an estimated turnout of 21%.
