User: Maurice27 has worked on an exciting project for Spain - a navigation box that will sit at the bottom of the article, and will quickly redirect the reader to the related area. Similar templates are being used in the lower parts of the United States (see eg New York, Florida and California) and Canadian Provinces (see eg Ontario). Some countries have variations (see Japan).
Draft is currently being proposed by Users: Maurice27 is:
{{Spanish Close UP 2}}
Again, this is just a concept concept, and not a content, format or end sequence. We also need to decide what page to use for this template (all pages related to Spain? Only "most important"?)
Please let us know what you think of (1) the use of templates like this, (2) content, formats and orders, and (3) what articles should be forwarded! Espana Viva 08:15, 15 February 2007 (UTC )
- While I appreciate Maurice27's efforts, I must say I'm not sure of the utility of a very large template. If that's me I would do is have one with stepping level, ie let's say in the Andalusian article I will have:
- when in a Spanish Civil War article I might have:
- This keeps the amount of non-content navigation material in a fairly low article. (We are already using the {{Provinces of Spain}} template in the provincial article to do this quite a lot.)
- If the consensus here is that we want to use a large template that fits all, I think we need to make sure it has an option to hide (eg using {{Navigation with image}} so that annoyed users can save it - Nick Boalch \ talk 11:03, February 15, 2007 (UTC)
- Ok people, let's see what you think about this other...
{{Information about Spain}}
- What do you think? Maurice27 17:57, February 15, 2007 (UTC)
- Do not forget the fantastic articles of Habsburg Spain and Adam Faanes in the mid-nineteenth century Spain. Albrecht 18:58, February 15, 2007 (UTC)
- Done! Ã,;) Maurice27 22:17, February 15, 2007 (UTC)
- I would prefer a shorter bottom template, such as taking each part of Maurice and applying it as a template for the article in that class (history, architecture, politics, etc.). A reader who sees the Visigoths does not need to be taken to Spanish phonology, for example. Smaller templates are also easier to maintain (add or remove articles), which is not a small consideration given some disputes around now. Physchim62 (talk) 16:00, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
- Do not forget the fantastic articles of Habsburg Spain and Adam Faanes in the mid-nineteenth century Spain. Albrecht 18:58, February 15, 2007 (UTC)
Proposal - how to combine multiple titles in this section, presenting a lower profile. For example, having
- History and Geography
- Languages, Arts, and Traditions
- Governance, Politics, and Administrative divisions
- Territories, Provinces, and Cities â â¬
My own view is that one (smallish) template that offers easy access to the most important Spanish related articles in all categories is preferred. Again, I recommend looking at the equivalents of a US State, such as New York or California. Espana Viva 17:07, February 16, 2007 (UTC )
Proposal 2 - In fact, HUGE is only for Spanish articles. That is the perfect gate for everyone to take wherever he wants to; History; Politics... I love the big things to include "everything"
I also agree with Physchim62 that in a particular topic, large templates are not required. The latter can easily be divided into smaller sections as EspanaViva suggested, perhaps adding titles like " History and Geography of Spain not just History and Geography . has all the information on all pages.We can have one part:
{{History of Spain}}
or this navigation box:
{{Test wikispain}}
Let me know what you think to give them a try. Maurice27 21:06, February 16, 2007 (UTC)
-
- The current navbox box in Spain really surprised me. But so is the alternative proposal here, with eight boxes lodged in "Information about Spain". I think the three navboxes are all right - and you can show all three, one above the other, in Spain, while only displaying one by one on another page. The advantage of displaying three smaller templates on the main page, rather than one large template for that page and the page itself, is that it's easier to change a small template than to change small ones and remember to change that big one the changes will appear on the main page of Spain.
-
- One of the smaller templates is "Spanish Geography" (or something like that), which will link to geography, autonomous communities/cities, provinces, and cities. I strongly feel that communities and provinces must have the same template; people who are not familiar with the small things of the Spanish government may not be aware of the differences between the region and the province unless they see separate lists side by side.
-
- Another smaller template is "Spanish Politics and History", based on Nick Boalch's example above, but with political topics being cast; the third is "Culture of Spain," which will capture everything else: language, art, tradition, etc. I recently changed my public holidays in Spain and, as there is nothing better, paste Template: Spanish Close 2 template below; too much for such small articles.
-
- I can do a puncture to make this change if you want. << W W W istah W assap 02:46, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Gibraltar
Although some aspects of Gibraltar, such as history before 1704 and outdated area claims could be part of this project, Gibraltar itself is not part of Spain over Portugal.
The display of the Spanish flag on anything related to Gibraltar is unacceptable.
--Gibnews 12:00, February 26, 2007 (UTC)
- The {{WikiProject Spain}} box does not imply that Gibraltar is part of Spain, only that the Gibraltar article is a Spanish-related topic that may be of interest to participants in this WikiProject. - ??? b Nick Boalch \ talk 19:27, February 26, 2007 (UTC)

- We are sensitive to concerns about "over tagging" if it is an article that our members will not be interested in, so I will work with Gibnews to see exactly what the worries are. If this is an article we seem to want to contribute, then I will likely bring the discussion back here for further instructions. Espana Viva 22:10, February 26, 2007 (UTC )
Can I formally ask you to remove Gibraltar from the scope of a Spanish project because Gibraltar is not Spanish, although it would make sense to include an article about the history of Gibraltar and the dispute over sovereignty.
--Gibnews 09:09, March 3, 2007 (UTC)
Dear Gibnews, even if I really understand your concerns about this, I'm sure there is no such problem. I'm not the person who did and/or included the tag, so I can not answer you, but unfortunately, nobody is willing to do " Wikiproject: Articles related to Spanish but not referring to Spanish territory ". And as the tags outlined, Gibraltar does fit in what we might call "Spanish History" and "Spanish Politics". best regards, Maurice27 18:00, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
By using that criteria, you need to put banners on many pages, but Gibraltar is not Spanish. --Gibnews 22:54, March 19, 2007 (UTC)
- I have lost count of how many times I and other contributors have explained to Gibnews that the Spanish WikiProject tag does not in any way imply that Gibraltar is part of Spain. Given that he continues to ignore this simple and rational explanation, I suggest that we confess to engaging in discussions with him on this issue for wasting that time and ignoring it. - ??? b Nick Boalch \ talk 23:00, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Request to Member Living in Spain
I would like to change the article Battle of Gravelines (1558) to an A-class article (and possibly FA), and luckily Tierra , the Spanish Army publication, has provided the source. However, I am currently studying in San Diego, California, and will not be visiting family in Spain this summer (I have to take calculus classes to get through my majors faster). That means I will not be able to access many sources that will help provide me with information about the topic. American sources do not mention much of the topic, and are generally overshadowed by the Battle of St. Quentin (1557 (another article I will try to turn into A-class articles, and possibly FA).I would appreciate if anyone went to the local library and searched for sources and scanned relevant parts of the book or what you had (plus the cover page and inside where all the book information is held.) This will certainly make things easier for me! Gracias, JonCatalan 22:37, February 26, 2007 (UTC)

It appears that the bot has added the Spanish Wikiproject tag to the article in the Almohad dynasty category. Some articles with only loose connections to Spain have been flagged like Chellah, Koutoubia Mosque, and Hassan Tower. These places are all in Morocco, and I do not think they should be equated in this Wikiproject. Other articles in this category may have been incorrectly labeled as well.-- Bkwillwm 10:55, February 28, 2007 (UTC)
- I agree, and I have removed the WikiProject tags from the three articles. Marking bots through categories is a blunt tool and can cause overtagging like this, but bot operators are certainly sensitive to error reports. - ??? b Nick Boalch \ talk 12:25, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia: WikiProject Simple Catalan-language: Spanish and Andorra WikiProject
There is a discussion here about Andorra and wikiproyek - Kimdime69 00:53, March 4, 2007 (UTC)
- Reminders that articles can have more than one WikiProject banner, and placing WikiProject banners is not a claim of ownership or control over the content of the article. The banner means that the WikiProject member will have an interest in maintaining/improving the article. Andorra articles, for example, can easily attract French, Spanish and Catalan projects without any problems. Viva 21:55, 4 March 2007 (UTC )
- The French WikiProject is also quite thorough in asking for opinions before entering Andorra in its authority. At that time neither WikiProject nor WikiProject Catalonia existed. This is really an argument about nothing - all that needs to be done is to replace the WP: FR tag with the WP tag: CAT and everyone will be happy. Physchim62 (talk) 13:42, March 6, 2007 (UTC)

Proposed WikiProject Project - select an important article for improvement
Now that the first major task includes the WikiProject Spain banner on about 10,000 completed articles, I suggest we decide on the next big WikiProject Project. I propose that we collaboratively try to move the Wikipedia version of 0.5 to the status of the Good article, and/or up to the Featured article.
You may know that WP senior editors have selected the most important articles to include in the CD release. Wikipedia version 0.5 articles related to Spanish are:
- Spanish - it needs condensation, edits, and can use in-line quotes to raise the rankings
- Pablo Picasso - probably already GA status; required a small touch; can use an in-line quote to rise in rank
- Diego VelÃÆ'ázquez - possibly already GA status or better; can use an in-line quote to rise in rank
- Miguel de Cervantes - possibly already GA status and FA status close; most need to format clean-up
- Madrid - possibly at or near the GA status (A-level rating of other WPs); need condensation, formatting clean-up
- Barcelona - recently derived from GA status; can use an in-line quote to rise in rank
- Philip II of Spain - possibly at or near the GA status; can use an in-line quote to rise in rank
- HernÃÆ'án CortÃÆ'à © s - possibly at or near the status of GA; can use an in-line quote to rise in rank
- Habsburg Spain - is already a featured article
- The Spanish Succession War - already a featured article
Can we reach an agreement to focus on one or two of these articles at once to polish them? They are all very close to (or already on) GA status, and we can easily start improving this quality. Typically, this article repair task works well with 1-3 main editors, and the rest helps.
Any suggestions/volunteers? Espana Viva 00:44, 5 March 2007 (UTC )

Proposed Collaboration of the Month - Spain, Madrid and Barcelona
Until now, I have looked closer to Spain, Raystorm has been a volunteer for Madrid, and Physchim62 speaks for Barcelona.
Here's my suggestion - Let's ask the WikiProject editor to focus on these three articles to get started with, during March. Instead of "Collaboration of the Week", I recommend "Collaboration of the Month" and spend a month enough to work on these three articles to get them into peer review and GA status in a liquor. We'll come up with the "Collaboration of the Month" section and invite other WikiProject editors to focus on all three. Reaction? Espana Viva 17:06, March 6, 2007 (UTC )
