Series preview

River Monsters travels all over the world with the host of Britain, biologist, adventurer and rich extreme fisherman Jeremy Wade to explore rivers and lakes to uncover the creatures behind local folklore and horrific stories about the monster fish. The event has brought viewers to Canada, Germany, Spain, Italy, Scotland, Iceland, Norway, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, India, Japan, Russia, Suriname, Brazil, Guyana, Ethiopia, Uganda, South Africa, Republic of Congo, Mongolia, and American states in Alaska, Florida, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Oregon, Washington, and Vermont.

In the first season, Wade's weekly search made him search for piranhas, goonch catfish (during his investigation of raids in Kali river), crocodiles, wels catfish, arapaima, piraÃÆ'ba, and freshwater shark species, bull sharks. All of them are deadly creatures enveloped in mystery. The event also focuses on explaining the eating habits, behavior, and conservation status of creatures. Reruns of episodes with text showing behind-the-scenes comments from the host about a particular episode can also be seen on Animal Planet and Discovery Channel. This episode will be titled River Monsters: Unhooked .

The second season River Monsters began airing on April 24, 2010, although the first episode, titled "Demon Fish" first appeared on the Discovery Channel on March 28, 2010. The season consists of 7 episodes and takes viewers to the Congo River and other distant locations. In the episode, "Death Ray", Wade caught a giant freshwater fish that was pregnant, the biggest fish he ever caught. She then gave birth to two puppies while she was being examined by Wade and a team of biologists. This season featured a white sturgeon, Wade is another giant catch (although he says it's his biggest catch, the stingray he captured in previous episodes is even bigger, so "Alaskan Horror" might have been filmed before).

The ninth season of River Monsters was announced as the last season.
