TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm (formerly TPC Avenel ) is a private golf club in the eastern United States, located in Potomac, Maryland, northwest suburb of Washington, DC After major renovations for clubhouse and course, the clubhouse reopened at the end of 2008 while the course reopened on April 28, 2009.

Remodeling

Originally opened thirty-two years ago in 1986, the course was rudely criticized for its poor design in the early years. It was also plagued by years of flooding and drainage problems and by a variety of turfgrass problems that affect green and often result in less than satisfactory tournament conditions. As a result, many top professionals stay away, and the Kemper/Booz Allen tournament is unofficially downgraded to the "B" event status.

In the summer of 2005, Dewberry and Davis soil survey crews were regularly seen performing measurements throughout the facility, sparking rumors that the old course being criticized would eventually be reconfigured. The confirmation came in 2007, when a $ 32 million golf course and club house renovation began in an attempt to bring the tournament back to Washington D.C. The renovation covers the entire course, which has been re-shaped to 7,139-yard (6,528 m) just in par 70 with Rock Run Creek being expanded and cleaned up.

The controversial sixth hole (conceived as a weak copy of the 13th at Augusta National) is converted into par-four straight lengths with now short and left green from the river. The ninth par-3 (famously vilified by Greg Norman, who suggested the original to be "blown up with dynamite") was rebuilt with a new green on a hill near the old practice green. The old 10 and 11 holes have been combined into a new tenth, par-five long play around the restored creek feature. The old 12th date is now the 11th, with the old par-five 13 (another popular target of the player's anxiety) being eliminated and replaced by the 12th and short parth four, par-four 13th.

In addition to the golf course, the project also includes new training facilities and short game areas, and club house renovations.

In November 2015, the 7th and 16th green is renovated to level contours and provide additional hole locations in anticipation to host Quicken Loans National by 2017. In addition, minor improvements are made to a number of holes, including stretching and gathering grass bent. around the 3rd, 4th, and 18th green, expands the 5th and 6th fairways, and flatten the 13th green front to create additional hole locations. Finally, putting green is placed fourfold from 1,500 square feet (140 m 2 ) to more than 6,000 m² (560 m 2 ).
